Shooting for BOMBERG - An Independent Swiss Watchmaker

If you haven’t heard of them already, BOMBERG is an independent Swiss watchmaker renowned for creating bold, unconventional timepieces that defy the norms of traditional watchmaking. Their designs are created to make a statement, to help wearers stand out from the crowd—and they’re doing exactly that with great success.

Photographing BOMBERG watches was both an exciting and a challenging experience. Every detail had to be perfect: from ensuring the engravings on the lugs and case were absolutely free of dust and dirt, to precisely managing reflections on the dial. The unique features of their watches demanded extra care.

For watch photographers, it's well-known that positioning the hands at 10:10 is a must—it’s the universally recognised placement that showcases the watch’s face to its fullest. Achieving this requires pulling the crown out to set the hands in place. On most watches, adjusting the crown and addressing minor issues in post-production, like digitally retouching reflections or crown placement, is relatively straightforward. However, BOMBERG’s innovative designs added an extra layer of complexity.

The crown, positioned uniquely on top of the case, alongside the intricate engravings on the bracelet, made this seemingly simple process much more intricate. Retouching or digitally "fixing" the crown wasn’t as easy due to the watch’s detailed and textured surfaces. Every adjustment required careful consideration to maintain the integrity of the craftsmanship.

Despite the challenges, capturing the essence of BOMBERG’s daring designs was immensely rewarding. Their watches truly embody the spirit of individuality, making them as unforgettable to photograph as they are to wear.
